Mommy Files

For the holidays, the director of London's school put together a a community project where she asked every parent to answer the question: "What have you learned as a parent?" It was a way to showcase the fact that as a parent, we all have very similar experiences. All of the answers were compiled into a book and each family received a copy of the book as a Christmas gift. It was a fantastic idea! Here is my answer:

"I have learned that the less serious I take myself, the more joy I get out of being a parent. It's not about doing everything correctly and in a timely and orderly fashion, but simply being fully present in each and every tiny moment, whether those moments are beautiful, messy, ugly, or down right nerve wrecking.

I have learned to never judge another person's parenting skills because being a parent is hard. Every situation is different, every child is different, every day is different. And at the end of the day we are all just doing the best that we know how, and that is perfectly ok!

I've learned the value of trial and error.

I've learned the value of time management.

I've learned the value of patience.

Most importantly, I have learned that being a parent would be more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. It is the accomplishment that I am most proud of to date. My heart simply melts every time my little one says "mommy"!"
